Retail discounting follows inventory, not generosity. Stock is cleared when a new range is arriving, when a season ends, or when a product generation is replaced. Learn the cycle for the thing you want and you will beat almost any code you could apply today.
Laptops and tablets
Late July through mid-September for back-to-school pricing and student bundles, and again in the November sales window for the deepest reductions of the year. Outgoing models are cleared in the four weeks after a refresh is announced.
Televisions
Late January and February, as the previous model year is cleared before new panels arrive in spring. The November window has the louder marketing but the January clearance often has better prices on last year’s flagship.
Outdoor furniture and grills
From late August. Garden centres and home-improvement retailers need the floor space for autumn stock, and reductions reach 50-70% by mid-September.
Camping and hiking gear
September and October, once the summer season closes. Previous-year tents and packs are frequently identical to the new model apart from the colourway.
Ski and snow equipment
March and April at the end of the season. Buying a season ahead is the single largest saving available in outdoor retail.
Mattresses
The long holiday weekends, when the category runs its heaviest promotions. There is little advantage in waiting beyond the next one, because they come round every couple of months.
Winter coats
Late January and February. Mid-season reductions arrive in early January but the real clearance follows once the new spring range is being merchandised.
Trainers and running shoes
Whenever a model is superseded, which for the major running lines is roughly annually. The outgoing version typically drops 30-40% within weeks of the new one landing.
Large appliances
September and October, as new model years arrive. Bundle savings on buying two or more appliances together are usually worth more than any single code.
Meal kits and grocery delivery
January, when new-customer acquisition budgets reset. Introductory offers are at their most aggressive in the first six weeks of the year.
Security software and VPNs
The November sales window, where multi-year plans reach their lowest effective monthly cost. Always check the renewal price rather than the introductory one.
Gym memberships
January for waived enrolment fees, and again in late summer when clubs push a second intake. Joining fees are the negotiable part; the monthly rate rarely moves.
